I bought this on kindle can not even put it on my kindle,(bought a kindle just for this) I have to read it on my PC. And every time I use it at school I have to uninstall it and reinstall it, and every time i do that it creates a new profile in kindle, that i have to delete. because of security settings at my polytechnic. Every-time I exit my network the computer is cleared. So next time i enter in i get a new profile, this is pretty standard network security. My network admin told me he is not quite willing to turn of the network security for kindle and apparently kindle can fix all this on their end. I did talk to kindle for about 45 minutes trying to clear this up. they told me i need to cal back when at school together with my network admin. He said no did not want to waste his time nothing he could do without getting into trouble. So this is my s...t revue and the reason for it. If kindle manages to sort something out i might change it. They were very sympathetic for my problem. but in this case sympathy don't really help.

Beautiful, only in metric, very upscale (or should that be Posh?) *iupdated

Taste and Season is a lovely cookbook with beautiful pictures and mouthwatering recipes. I've been watching a lot of MasterChef Professionals UK on BBC America and the recipes in this book remind me very much of the finished plates on that show, very professional looking.

The measurements are only in metric, and oven temps are giving in UK, so it says to cook at 220c, it's easy enough to find conversion tables by doing a simple web search.

There are also harder to find fancier ingredients like gelatine sheets, you can find them but probably will have to order online and not run off to the nearest grocery store.

Also one will run into UK terms for food such as streaky bacon or Cos Lettuce, which a web search tells me is romaine. Again the 20 seconds it takes to run a search is easy.

There is no interactive table of contents, or any index at all that I could find. It's basically read about the author then boom into the recipes. This is an issue as several of the recipes, for example the Cos Salad, tell you to dress with the Caesar salad dressing in the basics section, but you'll have to flip through the whole book to find the additional recipe.

I am reading this in the cloud, which is my preferred way to read e-cookbooks, but I can't imagine a TOC will magically appear if downloaded to an e-reader.

The recipes are rather fancy, Pork Cheek rilletes with mulled port jelly, for example- fun to read but probably not something I'll be making every day. Though I must say the recipe for the mulled port Jelly is rather easy, except for ordering the gelatine sheets.

There are some incredibly creative ideas in here, like bacon cream. The recipe call for sweating some bacon, adding cream, gently infusing for 20 min, straining, and whipping. This is part of a multi-part recipe, of which many are, that is game fish tartar with grapefruit, muscat jelly and Chantilly bacon cream. However, both the cream and jelly are relatively easy to make.

Another example is sauteed scampi with bisque mayo, smoked eel salad and sauce Vierge, as a recipe fun to look at but probably not something I'll whip together for dinner tonight.

This is a very much a Chef's book, fun to look at, but I'm not sure how practical his recipes translate to "cooking at home."

*The author has informed me of an available update with an interactive toc, making this a much more friendly book. Since I had deducted a star for the lack of TOC, I have added it back and updated this review.

French chaos in a historical setting

In his detailed depiction of the Great Fear that plagued France in 1789, Lefebvre reveals how and why sheer panic and terror swept revolutionary France in a matter of days.
Lefebvre's examination begins with a description of life of the peasant in revolutionary France. During prosperous years, the peasants fared well, though in the years prior to the revolution wages continually lagged behind rising food prices. Peasant life revolved around the harvests -- the effects of a poor harvest were felt until the next harvest as there would be little food to store in the granaries. During this era of fear and unease, panic developed, pitting different social stratifications against each other. It started with the peasants. Forced to bring their harvests to market rather than place them in storage, their growing nervousness brewed a series of food revolts through which the peasants refused to pay taxes.
It is clear that Lefebvre is very familiar with French geography, history and government through his vocabulary and descriptions, making this book better-suited for someone with at least a basic foundation in French history. Though he includes a short glossary at the beginning, the terminology he uses can be mind-boggling and confusing at times. The organization is confusing, alternating between top-down, bottom-up, and rural and city perspectives.
In general, this is a fascinating book that uses a historical setting to examine how profoundly rumor and fear effect human behavior and humanity.

This is a detailed book on the subject and very helpful. Persons is the key player in the pivot point world. It is something that ever trader must understand. Should be a early read.. it is stunning in the detail and the geography of the land scape of the market ... many approacehs to the floor traders guide that are not covered in other books...

You gotta be kidding me!

The basic text seems pretty good.

However, the "+CD-ROM: Setups for . . ." part wasn't there. Instead, I was directed to a Wiley support internet location (by the book), where this information is to be provided.

The first pass wanted me to BUY a WinZip subscription. Let's keep in mind, I paid $55 for the book & CD-ROM when I ordered it.

While in a festive mood, I tried to down-load it through the zip preview. After waiting for it to load for 45 minutes, I thought this is rather poor performance by a pretty good publisher.

Oh . . . they gave a telephone number to talk about it. Regretably, I don't want to make new friends.

If they can't include a physical CD, I think they should make the information available on the site in a user friendly method.

Also, the title should NOT include a reference to a portion of the product that is not in the shipment box.

This book delivers for the most part.

I've invested on and off for years, and wanted to try my hand at day trading stocks and ETFs, so I went looking for a trading system that would work for me. This book delivered for the most part. So why only 3 stars?

On the plus side, the author's system relies heavily on only a small number of candlestick formations and technical indicators to do the heavy lifting, and I'm a big believer in the KISS principle. And he includes tons of real chart snippets along the way to exemplify every aspect of his system. I found that adhering strictly to the prescribed candle and technical confirmation triggers enabled me to make good trade entries almost immediately. That in itself makes me glad I read this work.

But there are some negatives. I found myself re-reading a page occasionally to gain understanding, not due to techno-market esoterica, but because it was not well written. I regret that I never did totally extract an understanding of the author's system for setting trailing stops. I wondered if the book was proof read. The pivot point portion of the system, though fairly easy to understand, is virtually impossible to implement/use without the right software package (which the author promotes randomly throughout the book).

He had already experienced life as a Kentucky settler's child, a flat boat crewman on the Ohio & Mississippi rivers and a blacksmith's apprentice in early Saint Louis. Nevertheless, when he arrived in the Shining Mountains, he found his true home. Living life hard and one day at a time, surviving catastrophe after catastrophe, he has persevered not because he is some kind of superman, but because he has that tenacity necessary to live beyond the edge of civilization, where one miscalculation can mean sudden, violent death. Scratch has survived devious and evil partners, attacks by Indians and grizzly bears, the dreaded smallpox and the indifferent cruelty of nature itself. He has been shot, stabbed, cudgeled; even scalped. He has lived this life to the fullest. Finding his pleasure where he can--in Taos with its alluring Mexican maidens, in the tipi of a willing squaw, in the whiskey and camaraderie of the annual summer rendezvous. About the Author
Kenneth Libbrecht is a professor of physics at Caltech. A North Dakota native, he is the author of Voyageur Press’ The Snowflake, The Little Book of Snowflakes, and The Magic of Snowflakes: A Postcard Book. In the fall of 2006, the United States Postal Service introduced four stamps based on Libbrecht’s stunning snowflake photography.

Great Photos of Snowflakes - Great Inspiration in Crafting

After making all snowflakes from the book 100 Snowflakes to Crochet: Make Your Own Snowdrift---to Give or to Keep, I wanted to learn more about real snowflakes, so I bought this book. There is a wealth of information in this book for the novice: the structure of snowflakes, how snowflakes are formed, the various elements that impact their formation, charts & information about the different classifications of snowflakes (they aren't just all feathery), and of course, dozens of clear, beautiful photographs of snowflakes. Having bought this book, I am now inspired to crochet some new snowflakes that aren't in my crochet book. So glad I bought this book.

hands down- best science book of the year

This book is a small powerhouse. We live near the home of Snowflake Bentley in Vermont, who has taken more snowflake photographs that anyone else. My husband loves looking at his pictures, so he bought it because he has started to photograph snowflakes. This book has some beautiful photos, but even better, it describes how snowflakes form. Having read it, I could also tell if the snowflakes would be photo worthy or not. However, once I understood how they are made, I like then all- enjoy some of the odd shapes.

Great gift for Kids.

great gift for grandkids who live in Maine. Gets the kids outside playing in the snow. And they can really see all the different flakes clearly where with my old eyes, everything is a bit of a blur, LOL, but I do remember when I could see the individual snow flakes and it gives me joy to see them looking up the various kids of snowflakes they are finding.
