The cat stays mostly at home. Andrew is a keen amateur radio operator who enjoys radio contesting, chasing DX, digital modes and satellite operating. He writes extensively about many aspects of the amateur radio hobby. His latest obsession is software defined radio. He is rubbish at sending and receiving Morse code.

Interested in OpenHPSDR? Then you NEED this book!!

A superb introduction to SDRs in general, and an essential item for anyone wanting to look "under the hood" of the excellent OpenHPSDR series of radios, including the Anan 100D, Hermes, etc.

The text is very well written and easily understood, and the illustrations, tables, and block diagrams are extremely valuable.

I'd give it 6 stars [or more] if that were an option!

This book was very informative, but it is not for a newcomer to ham radio. A basic grasp of the workings of conventional receivers and transmitters is necessary to understanding the functions described -- those which are being performed by the software.

Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) is a two-year regional college serving southeastern Minnesota. Excellent study guide

This is the best study guide out their for iSeries Command Operations certification. I have got this guide and in a couple of days I sat for the iSeries certification exam, I passed with a score of 88%. You should note that this guide was my only resource on the iSeries but I also had a little background of the iSeries system from my work experience. My colleague also used it and he has passed the test with a score of 83%.

I do recommend this Study Guide if you are interested in sitting for the iSeries Command Operations certification exam and if you are already have a background of the iSeries system. If you are only interested in general understanding of the iSeries system then maybe you will find better guides out there to help you in understanding the iSeries as this book is geared into preparing you for the iSeries certification exam.

About the Author

Daniel C. Funk is a Professor and Washburn Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Sport and Recreation Management within the School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University, USA. His research examines sport consumer experience through the investigation of internal and external factors that shape attitudes and behaviour in related industry sectors. He has been recognized as a Research Fellow for the Sport Marketing Association and the North American Society for Sport Management. Dr Funk has published articles and chapters in a variety of academic journals and textbooks and served as Editor for Sport Marketing Quarterly.

Kostas Alexandris is an Associate Professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He earned his PhD from the University of Manchester, UK. He was previously a faculty member of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr Alexandris has published more than 60 research articles in international academic journals and several book chapters on topics related to sport, leisure, tourism consumer behaviour and marketing. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Leisure Research and serves on the Editorial Boards of Sport Management Review, the Journal of Service Theory and Practice, Sport Marketing Quarterly, Managing Sport and Leisure and International Journal of Sport Management. He is also the editor of the book Performance Measurement and Leisure Management, published by Routledge.

Heath McDonald is Professor of Marketing and the Associate Dean in the Faculty of Business and Law at Swinburne University, Australia. I absolutely love Essie. I've been following her for years now! I was however a bit disappointed in the book. It felt almost like a rushed essay. Almost a bit random content wise. This book didn't have much of a flow. These problems I think are more so of the editors fault than estee's.

About the Author
Jack Herris has a long history with aviation. His parents started dating while car-pooling together to North American Aviation during WW2. Jack’s father built P-51s, including parts for the first P-51 Mustang ever built, and his mother built B-25s. In 1971 Jack graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics. He then served as a Naval Aviator, flying P-3B Orion aircraft with VP-46. After leaving the navy he worked in the Laser Fusion Program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, then worked in the high tech industry in Silicon Valley. He holds CFI, CFI-I, CFI-ME, ATP, and Learjet type ratings. Jack is a long-time member of the League of WWI Aviation Historians, and before that the Cross & Cockade Society, and has written more than a dozen articles on WWI aircraft published in their quarterly journal, Over the Front and has edited several issues of that journal. He brings additional insight into these aircraft both from his engineering and military pilot experience. In 1992 he founded Flying Machines Press to publish aviation history books and after publishing 20 titles, sold Flying Machines Press in 2000. He became a repeat offender by starting Aeronaut Books, which published its first two new aviation books around Thanksgiving 2010 and now has 30 new titles in print. Jack wrote 30 articles on WWI airplanes for Model Aircraft magazine published in the UK, and has written the following books on WWI aircraft: SPAD Two-Seat Fighters of World War I Aircraft of WWI: 1914–1918 Development of German Warplanes in WWI German Seaplane Fighters of WWI Nachtflugzeug! This book is an introduction to the techniques of many-body quantum theory with a large number of applications to condensed matter physics. The basic idea of the book is to provide a self-contained formulation of the theoretical framework without losing mathematical rigor, while at the same time providing physical motivation and examples. The examples are taken from applications in electron systems and transport theory.
On the formal side, the book covers an introduction to second quantization, many-body Green's function, finite temperature Feynman diagrams and bosonization. The applications include traditional transport theory in bulk as well as mesoscopic systems, where both the Landau-Büttiker formalism and recent developments in correlated transport phenomena in mesoscopic systems and nano-structures are covered. Other topics include interacting electron gases, plasmons, electron-phonon interactions, superconductivity and a final chapter on one-dimensional systems where a detailed treatment of Luttinger liquid theory and bosonization techniques is given. Having grown out of a set of lecture notes, and containing many pedagogical exercises, this book is designed as a textbook for an advanced undergraduate or graduate course, and is also well suited for self-study.

This is a very good textbook for beginners to learn many body theory. The 2016 edition has corrected a lot of misprints.

EXCELLENT BOOK!

This book is exactly what a new student (with some training in basic grad courses in solid state, statistical mechanics, etc.) needs to grasp condensed matter physics without a "research-based bias." Todays programs are so focused on application that a thorough treatment of pedigogical materials get superfically taught. Philip Anderson warns about this in his timeless classic "Basic Notions." This book uses QFT in canonical picture (bootstraps), no mention of path integrals. I started out in HEP, so I got trained fairly well in path integrals, some may find this a barrier with the book. Luttinger theory is the most modern topic touched on, applications to materials science. I recommend Wen's book if you want to look at Quantum Hall Effects and Topological Orders (post 1980's).

Very low number of errors, insightful, dense, yet pedagogical

The strength of this book is the low number of errors, compactness of its presentation, pedagogy, collection of exercises, emphasis of fundamentals, and careful calculation. Rarely is the reader left, unaided and unguided, to fill in gaping holes in logic. It is somewhat slow to work through the dense presentation. Also, the book treats some rather advanced topics (e.g., Matsubara sums, Feynman diagrams, etc.) with the same compactness. I had trouble understanding what the book was trying to communicate while taking a course. However, on revisiting the material after I'd finished the course, I realized the presentation was quite clear, and it was just my extremely-stressed state that was causing me to misinterpret the material.

I should also say the extremely-ambitious course I took out of this book tried to cover almost the entire book, _and_ I was underqualified to take the course (I was concurrently taking only my first semester of introductory solid state physics). The book does say it is designed for a 2-semester course, not 1! It should be a statement about the book's clarity that the course wasn't a complete disaster for me...indeed, studying under such an ambitious instructor in such an unprepared state could have been a perfect-storm of a disaster!
