Martin Bryant is Innocent - Overlook the Terrible Editing of this Book

This has got to be the worst editing I have ever had the misfortune to read in a published work. I also leave to one side the charge of plagiarism made against McGregor in other online forums - I simply don't know enough about this aspect of the matter to comment.

Claims of plagiarism are serious and worthy of condemnation as is the poor editing but I feel bound to say that it would be a great pity if these issues overshadowed the larger matter at hand - and that is the unquestionable innocence of Martin Bryant - the man who has been languishing in prison in Tasmania since 1996 for the Port Arthur massacre. Whatever the provenance of much of the information collected by McGregor, his book provides abundant evidence for this most appalling injustice and the horrific implications which flow from the fact that Bryant was so obviously framed. I am not going to give any book a bad score which helps publicize the truth about this scarifying injustice which has such momentous implications for our understanding of what we had hitherto considered the rule of law in Australia.

In April 1996 in the quiet tourist destination of Port Arthur in remote Tasmania, 35 people were killed and 20 others injured by a lone gunman at the Broad Arrow Cafe and the nearby Seascape hotel. The event was by far the worst massacre in Australia since the Aboriginal wars of the 19th century. While all the killings were horrific, the gunman's deliberate murder of two young girls (3 and 6 years of age) - the Mikac sisters - and their mother (the gunman killed the younger sister while she was being held in her mother's arms) - totally traumatized Australia. The recently elected Prime Minister John Howard introduced wide ranging bans of semi-automatic weapons which became the benchmark for gun control lobbyists around the world. At the time of the tragedy and for a long time after it I was one of the vast majority of Australians who applauded Howard's measures.

The trauma of the murders made Bryant the most hated man in Australia history. This allowed the police and judicial and government authorities to engage in extraordinary subversions of due process and Bryant's rights. The simple fact is that Martin Bryant was framed. A simpleton with an IQ of only 66 - the equivalent of an 11 year old - he had neither the intelligence or the shooting skill to carry out the crimes. The truth furthermore is that no one at the scene who gave an identification of the gunman prior to the saturation media coverage identified Bryant as the gunman - and those who said it wasn't Bryant were never called as witnesses! And if this wasn't bad enough Bryant's inherited wealth was illegally seized by authorities in ways that prevented him from being able to hire his own legal counsel and he was thus left with only those appointed by the Government.

When you understand that Bryant was framed, it takes a good while for you to come to grips with the depth of evil which was perpetrated. In case anyone in the US or Europe thinks that a mass murder in remote Tasmania is of no relevance to them - think again. The Port Arthur massacre is Australia's 9/11 but with the twist that the framing of Bryant has echoes of the framing of Lee Harvey Oswald. There are people in positions of power in the Australian system who were part of an astonishingly horrific crime for the purposes of disarming Australia - and they succeeded - and they did it with the knowing culpability of Australia's mainstream media, and without a moment's thought for the victims, their families and certainly none for the hapless patsy, Martin Bryant.

I would urge anyone interested in justice to use this relatively cheap publication as a stepping stone to other better books and online research - see the works of Keith Noble's 'Mass Murder' (available through Amazon.co.uk) and the free online book by Carl Wernerhoff 'What's Going On'.

Not Enough Humbug!

P.T. Barnum's work was his life. He wasn't an artist and had no spectacular talent except to be able see it in others, exploit and publicize it. He was both a subversive and Victorian, a phony and a realist, a humbug and an exposer of it. From our perspective we most want to know how he did he do it? The moralizing and actual exploits are less interesting than are his techniques which are very relevant today.

"Humbug" Neil Harris's biography of the early seventies isn't so concerned with how and more with the what. We learn that he got his start with an outright hoax, the Joice Heth affair in which he bought as an act a slave woman who claimed to have been George Washington's nurse and 161 years old. We do learn the maxim, even bad publicity is good publicity when he encouraged people to challenge her authenticity. He may have done more than encouraged it, he may have created the challenge.

He goes on to form the American Museum which was more like a circus than a Guggenheim or Smithsonian. And he ends his life with the Barnum Bailey three ring circus built upon his concept of the American museum. There was the finding and promotion of Tom Thumb, the huge and lucrative success he created for Jenny Lind the famed opera singer and for Jumbo the elephant.

One tale from the book suggests its frustration. We are told that Barnum was responsible for getting tens of thousands of people to greet Jenny Lind at her arrival in America. This attention was critical for stoking the excitement upon which her success depended. Yet we learn little about what Barnum actually did to attract such a crowd. This is important because people didn't show up simply for the love of Jenny Lind since most people didn't have a clue who she was. Barnum must have utilized a range of tricks to create that kind of excitement but we learn about none of them.

Overall, the book is a good overview of Barnum's career and provides a small window on the entertainment culture of 19th century America. If someone knows of better and more definitive biography of the great showman please leave me the title in the comments.

Although it could have told me how to beat ruby weapon, I would recommend this guide to anyone who plays this game. The guide has exellent maps and boss strategies, but sometimes it gets somewhat confusing at times, but the awesome materia strategies and guides make up for this flaw. It also has a pretty good guide on weapons and armor, but lacks in items

This is a great book! It's the ultimate resource for any Final Fantasy VII Player. Even if you don't need the help to beat the game, you can beat it on your own and then come back to this book and beat it with it to make sure you get everything. It has colorful pictures and very useful maps. It also has good tips on beating the bosses. I've gotten Level 99, 9999 hp, 999 mp, 3 mastered double cut materia, dead Emerald Weapon, dead Ruby Weapon, three gold chocobos, 3 master summons, 3 master commands, a master magic, and just about everything you would need to be virtually invincible! This book can help you get all this too!

I enjoyed the Final Fantasy VII: survival guide because of its details and writting format. It gives a great walkthrough of the game in a reader-friendly format. The illustations in this book let you see perfectly what the writters are talking about. Without a walkthrough of any role-playing game, you are bound to overlook several items throughout the game. This walkthrough is a perfect book to read if you want to get the maximum amount of enjoyment out of the wonderful game. While this book is not as well written as the offical walkthrough, it is a great, less expensive substitute.

Charmng, Tragic and funny! I have read True Grit several times and loved BOTH movies as well. I'm now reading it with my 11 year old daughter, who loves it. (and there are so few books we can agree on!) A real "girl power" novel that's doesn't feel contrived or forced. Mattie's just a really strong character and in the end, the title "True Grit" is as much about her as it is about her tough guy guardian, Rooster Cogburn

Impressed for once with BradyGames

I was very uneasy about buying this guide since it is by BradyGames and the last few guides I have bought from them have been absolutely horrible (FFT:A2, WKC, FFXII). Tactics Ogre is a very involved game though with so many little secrets to it that a guide is necessary if you don't want to miss anything on your first time through the game (or second, or third...). I have limited time to play games, and a massive backlog so I try to do everything I can in one playthrough so I can move onto the next great game (although I'm really enjoying this game so I'll probably play it again in the future). Since this game was a must have for me I didn't have the option of using free guides from places like gamefaqs. Now that I have the game and this guide, I don't think I would want a text only guide anyways.

The walkthrough section clearly lets you know what dialogue options to select if you want to follow the Law, Chaos, or Neutral paths. It will also point out missable sidequests right in the walkthrough instead of what typically happens in other guides where they are all in a sidequests chapter and if you don't read that first, you won't know you've missed it. The walkthrough will also tell you what steps you must take to recruit the characters you can for your chosen path and they tell you right at the point you need to do it (recruitment process can span chapters for some characters). The sidequest dungeons have their own section in the back with maps and lists of drops which is great (and the main walkthrough tells you when they are available, again so you don't miss anything!). My only complaint is the guide does not tell you specifically how your decisions will affect your troops loyalty which I feel is kind of important (since I don't want any deserters).

Every level has a map showing enemy locations and hidden item locations. There is a table with all the stats for the enemies and possible enemies you can face for maps that have a random selection. It also lists any notable drops (every enemy drops something, but if the guide says n/a that means they just drop something normal you can easily buy at the shops). A minor annoyance for me is the maps are rather small, but big enough that I can make out where things are.

In the beginning of the book there is a nice section describing all of the classes in the game, even ones that only a single character can be, and also gives information on their stat growth along with a sample build for skills. My only negative for this section is it tries to be too fair for all the classes. All games like this will have a class or two that is more or less pointless compared to another class, but this guide dosen't really point those out. I suppose it could come down to personal play style, although in some cases some classes just truly do suck, while some may be beyond over powered.

It also has the usual tables of skills & equipment, along with who can use them. There are also the other typical strategy guide sections like character profiles and the like.

Some people have complained about the construction quality of this guide. I'm mixed on this. It's true that the pages are printed on regular sort of thin-ish paper. I would compare it to mass market paperbacks. It's not the glossy paper like what magazines are printed in. It makes the book itself thinner which is probably a good thing because there are ALOT of pages, but it could mean pages will tear more easily. I take good care of my stuff though and haven't had a single issue.

This is a major step in the right direction for BradyGames, I hope they continue to put this much effort into their future guides.

Not just Great - almost Essential

I don't own very many guides since I can either figure most of the stuff on my own or look it up online. Sadly fan sites of games are pretty much extinct and GameFAQS has pretty much no info on this game. So whether you are an old fan trying to remember or a new fan trying to learn the ropes you cannot go wrong with this guide ...unless you simply lose interest in the game. Even if you're on old fan returning this guide is tailored to the PSP version and contains crucial information for the changes they've added to the game.

This guide will help you with Decision Points without spoiling the story, tell you what the enemy COULD drop in case you're deciding whether to get every enemy or go straight for the win, tell you where the buried treasure is and help you decode how you get items as treasure, lays out the possible traps you can set, explains the classes and gives you an idea on a sample Skill Set you might like, gives you a better strategy in a few short sentences then some guides take a page or two to describe, it gives you an idea of what enemies you will be fighting so you can plan ahead and pick skills that will help you in the future better. (such as: should I learn Tame Beast or Tame Dragon first) So much material it is unreal

There is no way you will find a website that contains as much information as it would take someone a long time transcribing 400 pages filled to the brim of information onto a webpage. And even if someone did, honestly would you really want to print it out? You'd probably spend just as much on paper and ink if not more. PSP is a portable so who wants to be tied to needing a computer anyway? There is very little white space on the pages. It surprises me people are picking on the quality of the paper and not the small print. People say I write too small so I figured I would see some complaints on the small font. Honestly of the guides I have and those I have seen the paper quality is on par or better. It's still thin mind you - about 1 step up from magazine paper quality but it is still sturdier then the other guides I have. It's the information that counts the most and this guide delivers better than ANY other I have seen - including the web.

If you only play the game 1 time through, this guide will help you get more from that playthrough than someone on their 5th time will on their own. There is a lot of information in this guide I don't think 'most' people can even figure out on their own - such as how Buried Treasure is calculated.

A lot of information for a great price!

This is an absolutely wonderful strategy guide. The information is concise, in-depth, and straight to the point. Every page is designed in a very organized manner:
The top portion displays the battle map, character starting points, deployment numbers, and suggested level.
The middle portion has a chart with information on all of your enemies: their class, race, level, and drops.
The bottom portion comprises of tips and strategies for victory and includes beautiful, full-color screen shots.

This guides explains all three routes (Chaos, Lawful, and Neutral), as well as all the side quests, secrets, magic, item stats, and in-depth information on all classes.
It is true- as mentioned by a previous reviewer- that the pages are a bit thin, but the fact that this guide is nearly 400 full-color pages and is offered for only $11.00 on Amazon (when I purchased it), it is understandable. If the paper quality were to be upgraded, this guide would become too thick, too heavy, and the cost might go above $30 based on suggested retail price.
I just care about the information and this guide delivers. Definitely pick this up, it will be money well spent.

Very hard to read.

I really love Sandrine books but this book was very disappointing. The Harder They Fall was like a high school drama series with no connection. People falling in and out of relationship in a blink of an eye. The plot was missing and although I know most of these guys from other books in the Shifter Series I felt like throwing my kindle away. There were too many relationships going on at once and many of these relationships was base on nothing more than I love you and I love you too, and the next day the relationship was over. It's hard to give an honest review when you love the author but why are these books written so differently from the other well written books like the Assassin/Shifters series. I have an headache now, I will read Into the Lyons Den again to see if I can remember who end up with whom in the Santorno Drama.

I have been a fan of Sandrine for over a year now maybe longer and this series has evolved in so many ways that I can’t walk away from it. As her fans know we are always waiting for announcements and release dates and tend to binge read. Let me put it to you like this, the book was live at midnight and I stayed up till 2:30am reading it.

We meet the Santorno /Youngblood family and catch up with them after their kidnapping by Izzy’s (Isabella) biological mother. Who let’s face it was an awful human being who only cared about herself and how much she get from people not matter the cost. We learn that Damon and Tyler are still together, Health and Caleb have also move forward in their relationship. Izzy and Jacob have dealt with the hurt and have let the negative go. Charlie is still with Steve and dedicated to her career. Mark and Tanner are still a couple, but we also meet new characters like Paul Greystone and Jay.

Loved it!

Such an incredible joy to read this book by the amazing Sandrine! To see the Santorno-Youngblood kids grow up and fall in love. Stefan and Jordan still as much in love as ever as their family grows. The blending of relationships is seamless with her writing, the characters so rich and full of life. I am intrigued by the ending...and am very much looking forward to the next one!

In this lucid and comprehensive introduction to the myths of classical antiquity, now in a revised and updated tenth edition, authors Morford, Lenardon, and Sham approach the subject simply and effectively: they recount the myths using a combination of narrative and translations from ancient authors, accompanied by interpretative comment. A minor drawback of this method is that the often fascinating variations of a myth are necessarily omitted. The myth of Actaeon, for example, is told in Ovid's version (Metamorphoses, 3.138-255) where Artemis/Diana is angry because Actaeon has seen her bathing naked. Thus the reader hears nothing of the intriguing reasons for Artemis's anger that we find in earlier versions: that he had boasted he was a better hunter than the goddess; that he had wanted to marry her; that he had angered Zeus by wooing his aunt Semele whom Zeus himself desired. On the other hand, this method does bring the myths vibrantly to life.

At the end of every chapter, useful ancient sources are listed and select bibliographies suggest supplementary reading. And this is not all. A major aim of this book is to demonstrate the tenacious influence of classical mythology on later artistic forms and to show how the myths are inextricably woven into the fabric of our culture. So additional material is listed: books (mostly novels), CDs, and DVDs (documentaries, films, operas). The reader who follows up even a few of these citations will gain a rich awareness of the ongoing power of the myths.

New to this edition are a new "Myth and Culture" feature that examines the reception of myths through the centuries in important works of fine art; an even more vibrant art program enriched by approximately 40 new, stunning illustrations; an expanded Chapter 25 that looks at the impact of Greek mythology in the Roman world; an updated Companion Website at [...] with a wealth of resources for students and instructors; an Instructor's Resource DVD that contains digital files for nearly 200 photos in the text, along with an Instructor's Manual; the manual is also available in print and on the Companion Website.

Finally, the book focuses on growth policies -- analyzing the effects of liberalizing market competition and entry, education policy, trade liberalization, environmental and resource constraints, and stabilization policy -- and the methodology of growth policy design. All chapters include literature reviews and problem sets. An appendix covers basic concepts of econometrics.
