Its a really cute book.

I kind of found this by accident. Ive been messing around with crystals and reading books about them. Well this book came across and looked interesting, so I bought it. Beautiful little hardcover design, and so much went into this little book. Fat, thick, book on quality paper with great binding, gorgeous cover. Jammed with over 360 spells. The spells sound like great fun, and are positive and uplifting. I think this would be great for kids, parties, gifts.

The only spellbook I need, used as a guide

I typically like to write my own personal spells after getting used to the meanings of shapes, numbers, and symbols. Most of a spell's strength lies in the intent of whoever is casting it, so I appreciate this book as a guideline that branches off of this idea of intent. Some of these are certainly cutesy (like wearing a scarf for energy or speaking words of encouragement in the mirror), but the main idea of looking for that symbolism is a theme that shows up again and again, which I appreciate as a learning tool throughout.

Besides that I give this book points for size/portability (it's perfectly little for how much it packs inside) and choice of topics. If there's a single thing you need, it's probably in here: the popular categories of money, love, and luck have an overwhelming number of spells for every aspect of those things. Even obscure things that were personal to me were in here: overcoming fear of dental procedures, sale of a home and success of showings, and spells for dark winter days.

I really appreciate the thought put into this little book.

THE BEST FOR A FIRST READ!

Enid’s Famous Five books featuring Julian, Dick, George and Anne and Timmy the dog, were the catalyst which encouraged me to start reading more than 50 years ago. Thank you, Enid. The BBC, many public libraries, local authorities and alleged educational experts have been completely wrong about the worth of the Blyton works. I can remember having quite a lot of difficulty obtaining the original books as so many places would not stock them. The stories are great to read for their simplicity and straightforwardness.

When one did find copies of the book they were quite expensive all those years ago but great to own. I loved the letter on the back cover from Enid in some of the editions, and also the physical appearance of the book which I treasured as a youngster with the way the books were produced then which made them somehow much easier to read.

It’s a delight to read the stories again in middle age although recent editing has diminished some of the memories I have of the original editions and words used then (but I am now getting old).

Never mind… these books remain one of my best friends for life: they began my own reading adventure so do read these special adventures for yourselves.

Three books of the Famous Five in one

It's great to have these in printed form. I had only read them in Finnish and having them in Brittish English is cool. I learned several alternate expressions to the American English I have gotten customed to living here in the States. The text is otherwise fairly uncomplicated which is just what I was after hoping to engage a mixed group of kids aged 7 - 12 with wide range of reading skills as well as attention spans. The adventures are catching and the characters take charge and show initiative. An inspiring prospect!

Loved it

I loved these books when I was a child and now I am loving reading them to my 8 year old son. Obviously times have changed quite drastically since the release of these books, but there is no time limit on adventure. Once we got over the use of the name "Dick" it has been fantastic fun. He begs for me to read to him and is asking for the follow up books. Love Enid and her writing.

There are several approaches to attack hard problems. All have their merits, but also their limitations, and need a large body of theory as their basis. A number of books for each one exist: books on complexity theory, others on approximation algorithms, heuristic approaches, parametrized complexity, and yet others on randomized algorithms. This book discusses thoroughly all of the above approaches. And, amazingly, at the same time, does this in a style that makes the book accessible not only to theoreticians, but also to the non-specialist, to the student or teacher, and to the programmer. Do you think that mathematical rigor and accessibility contradict? Look at this book to find out that they do not, due to the admirable talent of the author to present his material in a clear and concise way, with the idea behind the approach spelled out explicitly, often with a revealing example.
Reading this book is a beautiful experience and I can highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning how to solve hard problems. It is not just a condensed union of material from other books. Because it discusses the different approaches in depth, it has the chance to compare them in detail, and, most importantly, to highlight under what circumstances which approach might be worth exploring. Good Book for Advanced Computing

Algorithmics for Hard Problems addresses an important (if somewhat small) group of technical people who work exclusively on intractable problems. It takes a great deal of creativity and a large set of intellectual tools to make even modest progress on these problems. Prof. Hromkovic's book presents and organizes a big package of ideas and tools for approaching these problems. Even the last section, entitled "A Guide to Solving Hard Problems" addresses some of the practical issues of working on problems for which a completely satisfactory answer may be out of reach.
This book is especially helpful for software professionals solving difficult problems because it helps one to categorize and understand where the "pain points" can be found. In many software applications very hard problems are hidden within perfectly reasonable appearing and seemingly benign systems -- it's critical in these cases to correctly project the details of the problem onto a well defined set of basis tasks.

"Of limited or no use" is really all that needs to be said about this book. My greatest joy all semester was filling this book with every sardonic comment my professor could come up with to describe the utility of this author's research.
